buildstats pricing
buildstats is free for public GitHub repositories and $9/month per GitHub user or organization for private ones, after a 14-day trial with no card. Every plan: 100 metrics per project, 50,000 points each.
There is one paid plan and it is priced per owner, not per repository, per seat or per push. A GitHub organization with 25 private repositories and 40 engineers pays $9 a month. Public repositories never pay and never need an account to start.
Plans
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $9/month per GitHub user or organization |
| Repositories | Public | Public and private |
| Trial | Not needed | 14 days, no card |
| Projects per owner | 100 public | 100 public and 25 private |
| Metrics per project | 100 | 100 |
| Points per metric and branch | 50,000 | 50,000 |
| Metrics per push | 50 | 50 |
| Pushes per minute and project | 60 | 60 |
| Members per project | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| API keys per project | 20 | 20 |
| Pull request comments and max-regression | Included | Included |
| README charts and badges | Public image URLs | Unguessable token URLs |
| History | Kept while the project exists | Kept while the plan is active, then 30 days |
Both plans get the same chart sizes (400 to 1,200 pixels wide, 30 to 1,000 points, light and dark), the same pull request comment, the same max-regression gate, the same read API and the same member management. Pro adds exactly one thing: private repositories.
What an owner is
An owner is the GitHub user or organization that a repository belongs to. The owner is read from the OIDC token your workflow sends, so there is nothing to configure. All private repositories under one owner share one plan and one 25-project allowance. A user with private repositories under a personal account and under an organization has two owners and needs a plan for each one that pushes private data.
How the trial works
The first private push by an owner starts a 14-day trial. Nothing has to be entered first: no card, no plan selection, no account. During the trial a private project behaves exactly like a Pro project. Two days before the end an email goes out. When the 14 days are over without a subscription, the owner's private projects lock.
A locked project keeps its pages and images readable for members and keeps answering pushes with HTTP 200 and locked: true, so CI never fails because of billing. New values are not stored while locked. Subscribing during those 30 days unlocks the projects with their history intact. After 30 days of being locked the private projects and their data are deleted.
Paying
An admin of a project signs in with GitHub, opens the billing page for the owner and pays by card through Stripe. The plan is checked against the payment provider when it matters and at least once a day. Invoices, card changes and cancellation live in the Stripe billing portal that the billing page links to. Once a cancellation takes effect the projects lock and the 30-day retention starts.
What is never charged
- Members. Invite the whole organization; there are no seats.
- Chart and badge views. Images are cached at the edge for 5 minutes on public projects and 1 minute on private ones, and a README rendered a million times costs you nothing.
- Pull request comments, job summaries and the
max-regressiongate. - API reads. Points, metrics and project data are available as JSON, 1,000 points per request.
- Public history. A public project keeps its 50,000 points per metric for as long as the project exists.
Questions
Do I need an account to use the free plan?
No. A public repository's first push from GitHub Actions creates the project. Sign in with GitHub when you want to claim it, invite members, rotate API keys or delete data. Claiming is also free.
Is the price per repository or per seat?
Neither. $9/month covers one GitHub user or organization with up to 25 private projects and any number of members.
Does the trial need a card?
No. The trial starts by itself at the owner's first private push and ends after 14 days. If you do nothing, the private projects lock and are deleted 30 days later. Public projects are not affected.
What happens to a private project when the trial or plan ends?
It locks. Pushes still return 200 with locked set to true, so CI stays green, but new values are not stored. Pages and images stay readable for members for 30 days. Subscribing in that window restores everything; after 30 days the data is deleted.
Can I pay once for several organizations?
Each organization is its own owner with its own $9/month plan. The same person can manage and pay for several from one account.
Is there a discount for open source?
Public repositories are free with the same limits as Pro, so there is nothing to discount. A private repository inside an open source organization needs Pro like any other private repository.
Where is the data stored?
On buildstats.io. Members can delete points, metrics or the whole project at any time from the project page or the API.
